The Flight of the Vin Fiz 2

Retracing the first transcontinental flight from New York to Los Angeles

About

My name is Collin McDonald. I am a Honors Student at Middle Tennessee State University in the heart of Tennessee. As a Honors Student, I am required to complete an Undergraduate Thesis Project prior to graduation. I am retracing the flight of Cal Rodgers who was the first person to fly from coast to coast. My flight will be about a month long and start in May. I hope to help get other young people interested in aviation once they see my story and all the amazing things that have happened along the way!

Take a look at the recent adventures I have had by clicking on the “recent post” over to the right! I have a linked in Facebook page where there are some videos and more photographs for the trip. The “flight tracker” link at the top will take you to the feed to see where I am currently at! Some of my flights won’t show up on there but the majority will and have! You can see where I’ve been and were I am going currently if I am flying! Thanks for reading and pass the word along!

Tailwinds and blue skies!

  1. Sounds like a great experience! If you need to stop over in Indiana, you know you can call us anytime! Our little town has a small country airstrip. 🙂 We’d love to see you again! Looking forward to keeping up with your trip!

  2. Things to avoid — from a poem about Cal:

You must begin to search For a pasture or a field Near a depot town, Avoiding oak and birch And docile cows that flee Or a defiant bull, Jealous of his domain, Who chases you into full Retreat, when your valor yields; Soothe farmers demanding pay For smashing their fence or crops; Allow fans to inscribe Their name on the dusty plane, But guard it: in their zeal For souvenirs they would ruin The parts they cannot steal. You shake your head.
